School Counsellor
Job Description

Provide individual and group counseling to students, engaging families when case assessment calls for it. Conduct home visits when necessary.

Conference with staff, parents, and external agencies on students under your care to work collaboratively towards the positive outcomes of the student and their families.

Be aware of and utilize available community and statutory resources to support students and their families effectively.

Organize and conduct training for students and staff on pertinent brain-informed, relationship-centered perspectives. Topics may include the impact of trauma on learning, offering attunement and co-regulation, and developing self-regulation skills.

Identify needs and initiate tailored programs for students.

Actively participate in professional development opportunities and engage with external networks to stay informed on best practices, Ministry of Education (MOE) guidelines, and adolescent mental health findings.

Provide regular updates to school management on the progress of students receiving counselling.

Be part of the CARE team and provide immediate crisis intervention and follow-up to students affected by critical incidents.

Undertake other purposeful tasks as assigned by the reporting officer and school management.
Attributes of a Crest Secondary School Counsellor

Is passionate about empowering and uplifting youth.
-
Possesses a recognized Master’s Degree in Counselling.

Demonstrates compassion, practices openness to differing perspectives, and work well within systems.

Is grounded in at least one suitable counseling modality, holds a systemic perspective, and applies an attachment, child development, and trauma-informed lens.

Is culturally competent to better serve a diverse student population.
